Let me start by highlighting just a few of my adventures. My first trip to PCC started by all my luggage being stolen. On top of that we were traveling by car and had no air conditioning or radio/CD player for the whole trip (that can be especially trying when driving the width of Texas). The next year I took the train which was great fun for the first few hours, however, I was too cheap to get a sleeper compartment, so after three nights of sleeping in the same chair and numerous delays, it got a little old. Two other times I spent the night in the Atlanta airport as well as one night in the New Orleans airport, one day in the New Orleans greyhound station, and one night in the Mobile, Alabama greyhound station. I made several friends along the way including an actor on his way to LA to audition for ER, a steward on the train, a lady who taught me blackjack using coffee straws, a couple of truck drivers, and a highschool girl. After reaching my senior year, I realized that all of my various routes of travel really didn't save me as much money as I was sure they would, so I finally got smart and started booking direct tickets to Pensacola where the school was waiting to pick me up. Wow, that felt like traveling in luxury!

When Karin decided to go to PCC, I strongly advised flying directly to Pensacola, which she tried to do. All was going well until she missed her connecting flight and called home stranded in Memphis. She did a great job however, securing a free hotel room and vouchers for a nice dinner and breakfast in the morning. I have not heard from her since she's arrived, but I think I need to take lessons from her. She managed to come out of the situation with a good night sleep and wonderful meals. Somehow, I always got left with the airport floor, and my bag of packed snacks.

Our Conversation

"Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ." - Phil 1:27

"The word 'conversation' does not merely mean our talk and converse with one another, but the whole course of our life and behaviour in the world. (I'm not actually taking any time off of work, but we'll be gone for about a week)

I'm planning meeting up with a friend that I met in Bangladesh during the last week in October. She lives in Virginia, but we are planning on spending at least part of the time in Florida visiting my sister in Pensacola. Here are my questions:

1. Which city would be more interesting to fly into, Alanta or New Orleans?

2. Do you have any recommendations for things to do/see in either place?

3. Would it be more fun doing things in the city for a few days, or should we try to find something on the coast of Florida like snorkeling perhaps?

4. Are there any other places in the general vicinity that would be worth visiting? (we'll be renting a car)

5. What things to you do on vacations that make them more fun?

If anyone wants to plan another trip with me, let me know! I love planning trips and going new places. If I know in advance, I can have 14 days off of work without taking any time off (a nurse's schedule:-)

Welcome to Kati's Blog

Hello, I am not sure who will be reading this blog, so I'll start out with simple introductions. My name is Kati. I recently returned to the US after spending 5 months abroad. Through a whirlwind of activity, I have now settled into a new city, a new apartment, and a new job; all with an old friend. I am blessed to have so many new adventures all at once, and I am equally blessed to share them all with one of my best friends. Over the course of a couple of years, my friend Tina and I convinced each other change jobs, share an apartment, and start an entirely new and exciting endevour. We are now nurses at Harborview Medical Center. Since that may not mean anything to many of you, let me try to explain...

Harborview is the county public hospital which services patients from Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska. It never turns anyone away, so as a result we get patients from every type of life. This provides wonderful experience, and allows us to encounter people and situations that we never would have elsewhere. Common diagnoses include: closed head injury due to assault, ejected from a motor vehicle, serious burns from meth lab explosion and so on and so forth. As I think about these people, the easy way out is to let my heart grow calloused, and to treat my work as just a job. However, I mind probes my heart with the questions, "What would Jesus do," and "How would Jesus care for these people?" I have to admit, that I often do not have as noble of an outlook, but I pray that I would be ever mindful of the opportunities that God places before me, and that my care would reflect Christ's love.

The following quote is a constant encouagement to me:

I am only one, but I am one,
I cannot do everything, but I can do something,
And what I can do, I should do,
And with the help of God, I will do.
-Ethan Hale
